Have you notified the following people of your change in address? 

  • Motor Vehicles Branch: drivers license, vehicle and plate registrations.



Planning A Move - Check List

Four To Six Weeks In Advance:

- Clean out your closets, toy bins, bookshelves, storage rooms, and basements.

- Arrange a garage sale or donate your items to charity.

- Use up your frozen and canned foods.

- Check on club and gym memberships.  Cancel the membership or transfer it to a friend.

- Register your child at their new school.  ask the present school for all important documentation to be transferred to the new school.

- Check with your veterinarian to be sure your animal is up to date with shots and if they will require any additional preparation.


Two Weeks In Advance:

- Contact telephone, electric, cable, internet, cell phone, gas, and water companies to confirm specific date for termination of service or for transfer of services.

- Ask to have your medical, dental, vison, and school documents transferred to your new location.  Make sure any prescriptions you have are filled and will allow enough time for you to relocate and not not run out.

- Contact Canda Post to arrange mail forwarding service.

- Advise family and friends of your new address.

- Contact bank to transfer accounts or open new accounts.  Order new cheques with updated address information.  

- Return library books, videos, and pick up photos, dry cleaning, prescriptions and any other loose ends.

One Week In Advance:

- Keep  accurate records of all your moving expenses, including receipts for tax purposes.

- Drain gas, oil, propane from lawn mowers, chain saws, grills, BBQ's, and heaters.

- Assemble first aid and medications in an easy to identify package for quick access during the move, if required.
